The following are some basic yet important questions you might ask the seller or their agent about a home you’re interested in. Bring a pen and paper to jot down the answers so you don’t lose track after viewing multiple properties.

• Why are you moving to?
• What is the square footage of the home?
• Where are the lot lines/boundaries of the property?
• What school district is local to this home?
• Are there any subdivision restrictions, or association/trash collection fees to consider?
• What appliances are included in the sale of the home?
• What type of heat and what are the annual costs?
• Have you had regular furnace maintenance done?
• How old is the furnace/water heater/water softener/central air system?
• What is the type/amperage of electrical system and is the system full?
• Are the stove and dryer gas or electric?
• Is cable television available?
• Is there a water softener or iron filter? If so, is it rented or owned?
• Have you had regular septic service performed? How deep is the well if there is one?
• How old is the roof? How many shingle layers are present?
• Is the garage insulated? Is there a door opener and is it included?
